Birthday Boy Turns Two

Here's a look back at the first two years. How does it go by so fast?

Alton started out his big day by asserting his new found two year old independence with regard to his clothes. He forcefully declared that the shirt that I had picked out for him was "too big" (he's recently determined that he can decline to cooperate by stating that things are either "too big" or "too small"). So back to the closet we went where he choose a very nice green plaid button up shirt which in all reality is "too big". I tried to dissuade him with at least 6-7 other selections all which were emphatically declared "too big".

Most mornings I do ok leaving him with his nanny, Jessica, but it was especially hard to tear myself away on his birthday morning. Kimberly left me several messages throughout the day marking the progression of our labor experience two years ago. I have to admit it was somewhat bittersweet, I'm certainly happy to not be going through actual labor pains, but there are really no other experiences that can compare to the first moments of birth.
Jessica & Alton had a wonderful day, attending his weekly play group and then lunching at Red Robin where he wore the birthday hat she got for him, chose his own lunch combo (chicken fingers, mandarin oranges & fries) and had the wait staff sing Happy Birthday to him.

I came home a little early from work and we had the rare opportunity to both be at his crib when he woke up from his nap. He was just as sweet waking up as he was in the first moments we held him after birth. Together we ate a Birthday dinner of his current favorite dinner, pizza, and then went to our own local ice creamery for a birthday size banana split. As you can see from the pictures he loved every last slurp!
We topped of the evening with a trip to the park and a skinny dip in his kiddy pool to cool down before bed. (notice how nicely the birthday hat complements the birthday suit!)
In true two year old style, he read his own bedtime story before bed.

We are amazed daily at how much he contributes to our lives and couldn't imagine life without our little man. Happy Birthday Alton Liam!
